Insurance budgeting: How much to spend on an amateur production?

    Hi folks, I'm looking for a bit of input from some pros. We're organising a 3-day no-budget shoot for an amateur competition. Production is set for 2 weeks time.

    I would like to take out public liability cover as well as some cover for equipment (up to about 10 grand say, everyone's using their own stuff but I don't want to leave them twisting in the wind if something does go wrong).

    One of the guys on the team suggested there's a package doing the rounds at about 250 quid, while the insurance guy I use for my day job just quoted me a minimum of 600-750.

    Does anyone have any experience buying insurance at this level?

    Go to a company that does film stuff regularly. If your day job place doesn't do it they'll probably quote you far too much.
