Insurance claim question

Hey, I read through the opening post but couldn't find anything that highlighted it. Basically I crashed my car 10 days ago (no other party involved bar a ditch, I got out unscathed) , it needed to be towed away. The mechanic towing it did a quick inspection and seemed to be confident in saying that it was all cosmetic damage (bumper, bonnet, door etc.) Car is valued at about 4500 euro and I've full comp insurance with 9 years + NCB with NCB step back).

Anyhow the car has been in my local garage since the accident and I've been sourcing parts since with the view it wouldn't be overly expensive to go down the route of paying it from my own pocket to protect my NCB fully. However today I was informed by my mechanic that there may be a problem with the back axle and that the repair cost for this would be 'not be worth it for the value of the car'. He said he could only get a quick look at it today but he would investigate it fully tomorrow. My question is, is there a time limit from the accident to making a claim?I realize I should've contacted my insurance company first but I initially thought the repairs would come to a couple of hundred rather than the figures he said it could come to if the axle does have this problem. I know contacting my insurance company for this answer should be my first port of call but has anyone had a similar experience? Thanks.

I think you have two years from date of accident to make a claim, look up injuries board and maybe research a good solicitor if taking it further

Ps: if just claiming through insurance, this is different.. Depends on the circumstances of the accident

What has the Injuries Board got to do with the OP damaging his car? Nothing to do with it whatsoever.

OP, 10 days is not too bad, providing no work has been done on your car that might hinder their investigations. Don't leave it any longer though

None of us know the conditions of the road that led his car to being in the ditch in the first place nor if there were any injuries.

He was willing to pay to fix the damage himself, as we all would, but it seems that there is alot more than previously thought. He may now not be able to afford to fix the car and maybe have no choice but to go through insurance to put another car on the road to get to work. I am mearly giving advice.

    .

I think when the OP said "no other party involved bar a ditch" we can safely assume that the Injuries Board will pass on this one
