Is it crazy to buy a used car now or would I be better to wait until Jan 16?

Doesn't make much odds tbh. Prices don't just drop a big step on 1st Jan.

Most used cars probably had their prices dropped in the last few weeks to take account of the year change in January. As said they don't magically drop on 1st Jan.

if you wait till late jan, early feb there may be more selection of cars in many dealerships as all new cars will be bought and old one traded in

Thanks I just wondered if the prices dropped significantly because the car is now a year older.

If the car your looking at was traded in recently then chances are that the dealer bought it from the previous owner at next year's price too. The same way if you were trading in your old car now, the dealer would be buying it at it's 2016 trade-in value.
