Recommend a Scotch please

I'm buying a bottle of Scotch for a friend and I know nothing about the drink myself. :o

I asked him what he likes and he's not fussy except that it has to be single malt. The last bottle I got him was "peaty" so I'd like to get a different style this time as I get the impression he likes to try different types.

My budget is €50, but I can stretch to €60 if necessary. Am happy to buy online or in an off licence.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

    Highland Park 12 Year Old - 46.99
    Glenlivet 12 Year Old - 46.99
    Glengoyne 10 Year Old - €54.99
    Talisker 10 Year Old - 56.99
    Springbank 10 Year old - 57.99

None of those are too peaty, I rate them all highly and I doubt your friend would be disappointed with any of them. The prices are from the Celtic Whisky shop on Dawson street.

Glenlivet might be the best bet as its from Speyside, quite sweet and very easy drinking.

Highland Park and Talisker both quite smoky so may be a bit close to the peaty whisky you are trying to avoid, but both still very good.

Another option would be to go into the shop and ask advice in there, all the staff are very knowledgeable. There are lots of others but of the ones I've tried I'd recommend these!

Lots of good deals in O'Briens at the moment -

    Glenfiddich 12 (€42),
    Cardhu 12 (€45),
    Singleton (€43),
    The Glenivet Founders Reserve (€39).

All around your price bracket, I wouldn't say no to any of them.

Sington and Cardhu are both around €45 in Dunnes, plus if you have (or can borrow) a €10 off €50 voucher, you can throw in a few Euro extra of shopping (alcohol!) and get a tenner off the lot!

There may be a few other single malts in Dunnes but those are the two I'm sure of.
