Just a reminder that the second biggest event in the calendar starts today :)
TV Coverage starts on BBC and Eurosport from the second round on Saturday.
Defending champion Ronnie isn't playing but will apparently be in the Eurosport commentary box.

Its a full 128 player, multi table affair these days.

Ding JunHui the biggest casualty so far, beaten 6-2 by amateur Adam Duffy.
    *********
Asked where he thought his match went wrong, Ding said: "It was crap. ****ing four tables and everything is going wrong.

"I don't want to say any more about this. It's just crap. It's for amateurs."

In 2013 the format changed to a flat draw with 128 players starting in the same round, meaning the early stages involved more tables and more cramped conditions, with four in the main hall and four in the sports hall.

Peter Ebdon knocked Stuart Bingham out 6-3

Selby making hard work of it cuurently heading for 3-4. Hawkins complaining about the tables after his defeat. Wonder if the top players will put enough pressure on to get this format looked at for next year. This is the second biggest tournament after all.

Just checked up there jimmy only lost 6-5 friday night to miss the televised stages. Jimmy's appearances at the latter stages of the bigger tournaments getting very rare now.

Selby is some gritty performance. He was behind fro the whole match and ame back from 'snookers required' to win two frames and beat Jones 6-5 last night - it was gripping stuff.

Yeah selby match was a bit epic. Selby was lucky given the match stats.

Trump steamrolling liang wengbo. Three frames to nil without a sniff of a point for liang.

It's 4-2 now, but Trump looks comfortable all right.

Gutted for that poor lad with the 147 attempt. Some break with a poor miss on the black.

Wenbo makes it 4-4, Trump is a bit flakey tonight.

Just turned it back on and lo and behold, Trump is 4-5 down and firmly planted in his seat!

Trump is out - some shocking misses in the last frame.

It was cruel, I think it could take along time for him to get over it to be honest, the pot on the last red was incredible, but you could see him starting to wilt after the blue, he got a little worked up, he stumbled twice before potting the pink and really rushed the black.

    Shaun Murphy out! Wow.

Burnett making a fight of it against Higgins, back to 4-4 now, he looked finished when it was 4-1, but he decided to be more aggressive in the last few frames and it's payed off, should be a good finish to it.

Higgins holds out wins 6-4, Burnett had chances to win both frames but just not good enough to finish it off, but he did make Higgins fight for it.

Could be anyone in that top half in the final. You would think the winner comes from the likely selby v robertson semi. But as we saw in the trump game anything can happen in this tournament.

    Grace v Gould
    Wenbo v Fu

    Robertson v Higgins
    Selt v Selby

You'd have to fancy Fu to come out of top half but bottom half is a toss up with Robertson, Selby and Higgins all capable

Sorry to see Joe Swail go out.

This run should push him up the rankings and give him a better chance of qualifying for the Worlds

So Fu knocked out by Wenbo - didn't see that coming.

Grace almost over line but gould could nick it now.

Gould will be as sick as a dog,The referee saved grace calling a foul and not a miss ,great match

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,221 ✭✭✭tanko

The organisers should tell these two lads to go home, give the crowd their money back and get Selby and Robertson to come in tomorrow for the final.
This must be the worst match ever played, diabolical stuff.

Pity it didn't go to a deciding frame just for the crack. I'd say it would have lasted a couple of hours at least.

    Robertson is ruthless this evening

Just flicked on to catch the end of Selby Robertson. Wenbo's reaction seemed OTT. It's a huge deal for him but calm down! Come on Selby though, only 4 down.

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,837 ✭✭✭✭paulie21

    147 from Robertson

Brilliant clearance by Robertson, 6-4 now.
