Online Check in for two return flights (possible?)

May be a bit of a stupid question, but can you check in online for two return flights? There's a very good chance I'll miss my first flight and I've booked the next one just in case.

You can check in for as many flights as you want that are within the checkin window - however, you say "return" - you can have trouble if the outbound isn't used if you do mean a flight booked as a return.
