Insurance on birding gear - scopes /bins/cameras etc

In renewing house insurance recently, I mentioned about having birding gear included in house contents when shopping round for renewal insurance. Most of the insurers I contacted were a bit "iffy" about covering them and were adding a not insignificant loading to my contents premium once any one item went over a fairly low value- I was quoting the value as for replacement. Just curious to know how/where birders here get cover for their equipment and is it also possible to get cover for possible theft from vehicles. I'm wary now of leaving bins/scope etc even in the boot of the car when unattended. Any info on insurance options for these items welcome - pm if recommending insurer etc. Thanks !

I have always had mind on the "extra cover" of the house contents insurance at very little extra cost.
