How long to get Wedding Photographs

    Hi all,

Just a quick query - Generally how long does it take to get your wedding photographs after your wedding day? We got married in early October, we were initially told 2 weeks, although thinking back maybe they ment for samples rather than the whole lot.

Anyhow we have received 2 sets of samples, the first were in a story book format which were gorgeous about 3 weeks after the wedding, but not high enough quality to print, and last week a selection of 50 photos via dropbox.

I know we are not waiting that long, I just wanted to get some idea of average timescales really. I guess I dont really know what is involved in editing photos, is this quite a time consuming job? I know that the wedding album itself will take a number of week so am prepared for that, I am just really eager to see all the photos!

Best ask your photographer. What kind of info have they got on their website. It could also depend on how popular they are and if your wedding was during a busy period.

I'd say the 2 weeks were just for samples. I got married on 9th October (although this was 5 years ago) and got my photos on 23rd December. TBH I wasn't expecting them that soon, but my photographer knew I'd got a load of family coming over for xmas who'd probably want to see them. Mine were a set of 2 discs - 1 super high quality that you'd use for prints and for the album (I did my own album) and the other were lower quality with his logo in the corner, which were a smaller file size, so they could be sent in emails, put on FB etc.

Depending on how many photos you're getting the editing can take a long time, although I think you're in a good position because you got married at an 'off peak' time, generally speaking people who have summer weddings are often waiting longer for their photos.

We also got married on 9th October - great day for it!

Cheers for the advice, Im not worried at all about it, and the photos we have seen are really gorgeous and we are so happy with them, I guess we just didnt discuss with the photographer before the wedding on when we would get the photos, and I didnt know what work is involved in the editing process.

The email I got said "a couple of weeks", so wasnt too sure if I should take that as 2 or 10! We are due to get two discs too in the same format.

I dont want to harass the photographer constantly asking, so cheers I have a better idea of the time required now :-)

It depends on the photographer! In my experience, higher-end photographers take longer because they're very perfectionistic, and time of year also has an impact (high season = longer wait). Ours took about 8 weeks to come, but our photographer told us to expect that wait at the very beginning. I wouldn't see any problem with asking for specifics :).

We got married in July and got our proofs in September.

Couple of weeks going back and forth with changes and what not before been sent to print.

The albums were supposed to be delivered last week but due to a fcuk up with the couriers and the delivery address they sent them back to Scotland.

Should hopefully get them tomorrow according to out photographer.

So latest update, photographer said usual turnaround is 8-10 weeks, so with xmass coming up its unlikely we will get them this side of xmass. Least I know now...just cant wait to see them already!

We were on honeymoon for the guts of a month - and had 800 photo's in Dropbox when we got back. We worked through the ones we wanted in the album - arrived approx. 3 weeks later, airbrushed etc. Dunno if that's standard or not, but I was happy with it

God that is really fast. Photographer is saying we will have 400 odd, and choose 100 for the album. From what I have read elsewhere 8-10 weeks seems pretty standard, ye were really lucky! Where the 800 photos edited? The samples I have been so far have all been edited/air brushed or whatever, but I would like to ask for all of the photos they took, whatever number that is to hold on to

No, but they were really high quality - I wouldn't know the difference to be honest, my eternally greasy forehead aside. One of our guests with a professional looking camera was shadowing the photographer all day to catch the pictures he was setting up, but there was no comparison in terms of quality.

We had agreed at the outset that only the ones for the album would be edited, so no surprises on that front.

Oh thats really handy, least you got to see them quickly, and then the ones you wanted were edited then. From what I can tell the 400 we are getting will all be edited, then we pick the 100. Same as that, our friend had a lot of the same photos and there is not comparison at all, the professional ones are crystal clear and the colour is super. Friends came would be pretty decent too, but not up to that standard!

I thought 3 months was standard enough... they need the time to clean up the photos, bits of edits, and probably only give a selection of a couple of hundred rather than the thousand they might take on the day, while at the same time probably shooting other weddings.
