My six year old is looking for a chess set from Santa. Where would santa get a good character based chess set.....star wars or similar?

If it's character-based, I think you're best off checking online - usual sites like amazon or ebay. Off-line, I imagine a big toy company would be your best best. Most of the people on this forum would know specialized chess supply sellers but they only do the standard staunton pieces which don't seem to be what you're after.

Does he / she like Super Mario? Gamestop on Henry Street have a lovely Super Mario chess set for sale that I've been courting for a while. It's around €60.

I looked for Star Wars sets in particular on amazon UK. There are lots of options, but they all seem to be discontinued lines and so are very expensive - most over €100. There are also lots of different Lord of the Rings sets available, some of them more resonably priced than others.
