Buying a saloon car

    Hi all,
Although I've been driving for the past 10 years, I'm now thinking of getting my first car. My budget is €10k but could stretch a bit more for the right vehicle. I will be travelling a fair bit now (the motivation for buying) something in excess of 25k kms/year. I'm used to driving diesel, and I think petrol is out given my mileage.

Another thing to note is that I've never had my own insurance policy so this also has to be a factor. Despite being over 25 and being a named driver (only 2 years continuous) on other policies this seems to count for nothing now.

So what I'm after is a low tax, low mileage, comfortable, diesel saloon, that's reliable and economic to run - the holy grail and unobtainable I know!

So my heart is set on a saloon as I've driven smaller cars and they do nothing but annoy me. I also don't really like the focus, and find the Passat a little boring to drive. I've been considering the Peugeot 508, Mazda 6 or some of the older Audi A4/6's as possible candidates but I've had mixed reports on them all and I'm not sure If I'm insurable on the larger cars.

Has anyone been through anything similar or would like to help provide any options worth considering?
