So going on a family holiday to Lisbon . We have the option of checking in our bags the night before at the airport which we will do I think. So for our 0605 departure do you think arriving at the airport at 515 is gonna be ok? We are staying very close to the airport so don't have to worry about hitting traffic on the way .
Thanks for the advice, it's been years since I crossed the road let alone git a flight with the kids anywhere!

At the latest. It's a really busy time in the airport!

Definitely arrive earlier than the time you're thinking of. I'd be there for 4.45am. It's one of the busiest times at the airport and especially in terminal one.

Deffo get their earlier than that. Arriving 50 minutes before your flight is not enough time, especially as that is a very busy time of the day & you have kids in tow.

Get the fast track service to speed up security.

Gets you past q. I normally get the concierge service when my wife is travelling with the 2 kids. Makes it easier as he puts the buggy on the x ray, sorts bottles and minds one of them while the other is brought to the loo etc.

Its a long enough walk to the Ryanair gates. 4:45 definitely safer.

+1 It's a very long walk to the Ryanair gates, especially if T1 is busy with lots of people who went early to get past security and then end up with lots of time to browse the shops and grab a coffee so the place is jammers and there's a long queue in Starbucks. It was mad busy at 6 a.m. last Saturday.

IMHO it's the volume of people that can delay you and not the queues for security, I've been through T1 and T2 in the past few weeks for an early morning (6-7) flight and security both times was a breeze because all the scanner lanes were operating.

I'd risk 50 minutes for Aer Lingus in T2 (non-USA) with no check-in bag but otherwise I'd leave at least 90 minutes, especially for an early Ryanair flight.
