So I pay the tv license and I have to watch the incessant advertising but now RTE want me to pay again when I'm abroad !!!

They seem to pride themselves on how well they have locked down the RTE player etc. so there is no chance of watching abroad :-(

If RTE had spent some more time adding functionality/licensing to the RTE player so licence holders could watch the programming they helped pay for , but alas no ! RTE prefers if these licence holders pay again for the privilege and buy another fee !!!

    Very annoying !!!

TV licence is NOT a fee entitling you to watch RTE (or anything else). It's actually just a form or tax everyone (who has a TV set) pays. Similar to motor tax - if you have motor tax paid you still have to pay M50 tolls, fuel etc.

And dog owners have to pay tax (so called "dog licence" IIRC) as well.

At least the RTE international player exists. The BBC won't even take my money for the BBC Store, let alone allow expats to pay for a sub to the iPlayer.

Not a Consumer Issue. Moved to the Television forum.

You're absolutely right. The government should put a massive increase on the tv licence so RTÉ can cover the international rights for all shows on the RTÉ Player.

With that massive increase in the licence you will then be able to watch the RTÉ Player abroad with no difficulties.

I am amazed RTÉ or the government have never thought of it.
