When I heard the €160,000,000 was won in Portugal I said to myself that I reckon Portugal seems to get more than its fair share of euro millions jackpot winners. I decided to do some research and boy was my intuition correct.

    France Pop. 66m - 78 winners
    Spain Pop. 46.7m - 74 winners
    Portugal Pop. 10.46m - 58 winners
    UK Pop. 64m - 55 winners
    Belgium Pop. 11.2m - 25 winners
    Austria Pop. 8.4m - 14 winners
    Switzerland Pop. 8m - 14 winners
    Ireland Pop. 4.5m - 7 winners
    Luxembourg Pop. 0.54m - 2 Winners

From that list we are only luckier than the French and British. The Spanish, Austrians and Swiss are marginally luckier, the Belgians a bit luckier again, the Luxembourgers are over twice as lucky. The Portuguese however are Jammy fecking bastards or inveterate gamblers and no wonder their economy is in the sh!tter. They must spend all their disposable income on Euro Millions tickets!

    :D

Maybe in Ireland people aren't as stupid as other countries so don't buy as many tickets.

Number of winners vs population is not relevant...it should be number of winners versus number of ticket/line purchases!

NO ITS BECAUSE OF THE BAD LUCKS DAMMIT.

Don't be using logic here. Not on a Sunday at least.

Why the hate on the lotto? Everyone knows your practically guaranteed not to win it, but people waste money on all sorts of stuff - fast food, smokes, drink, clothes etc. the way I see it a ticket every now and again is no harm. i'm sure people aren't deciding to buy the lotto or feed their kids!

Half of those wins in Portugal were Irish holiday makers.

Eh? That's my point. Deviates too far from the mean if per capita lotto spend was similar, therefor the only conclusion is that the Portugese are inveterate gamblers!

Sooooo, OP .........one can surmise that you have not won the jackpot yet? Not even the big one in Spain ......... that sent you an eMail/letter telling you of your good fortune in winning over $10,000,000? Your own fault ......... for not answering the letter and furnishing bank details etc.
I've no sympathy for you at all!

    Not quite.

Gambling is illegal in Portugal. That's why so many people over there play the Lotto(which is legal).
