With 1GB of Ram and 8GB storage this would be a option for everyone.

How does this compare to the Motorola Moto E 2nd gen? They both have 1GB of Ram, 8GB storage, 1.2GHz quad core processor, 4.5in display, 5MP rear and 0.3MP front facing camera. The only differences I can see is the Aldi one has a Li-Ion 1800 mAh battery and the Moto Li-Ion 2390 mAh battery. Unless I'm missing something, the Moto E 2nd gen looks to be slightly better and better value if you can get it for 59 euro.

I think you've answered your own question there. Motorola would be much better and you would assume they will push updates much sooner.

Despite all the great promises at its launch, Motorola haven't even updated the EU model of Moto E 2015 to 5.1 yet.
Possibly never will, they "accidentally" mislabelled an incremental minor update to 5.0.2 as 5.1 last month, and they have confirmed that they won't be bringing Marshmallow 6.0 to the Moto E 2015, so I wouldn't be holding much hope for updates from Motorola.

They are not the company they used to be when Google owned them and under Lenovo's influence are now little more than liars and conmen, who now won't even honour the warranty on their devices. I know what I am talking about first-hand. A family member has a Moto E 2015 and I myself have a Moto X 2014 that developed a fault 4 months after purchase. Motorola are trying to con me into forking over €180 for repairs by claiming my warranty expired earlier this month - on a device I purchased at the end of June!

For the resolution alone, it seems a poor deal.

Where can you get the Motorola E 2nd gen new and at the price mentioned above? I haven't heard much about it recently and it doesn't seem to be available on Tesco, where I think it was before. I'm thinking about going for are replacement phone but the best avaable for payg is 1gb of ram, I'd prefer keep my current deal with payg to which I'll lose if I change over.

I don't think you'll get it at that price anymore. It's in other places for 119 but its not worth that.

You can get most phones unlocked so they will work with your current plan & provider

Yes, I have thought of buying a phone second hand too and getting it unlocked,
Wheres good for that, have a little bit of concern over that as I read that IMEI numbers might be sent off to the unlock code provider, dor what? nefarious intent?
I didn't want to be restricted to whats available with my network (Tesco), I'm a little bit wary of buying one secondhand but I suppose a quick test will show if it works, just handier to test with own sim I thought.

I'm looking for at least 1.5gb RAM as Im finding the supposed 1gb existing I have to be wanting (lacking).
I dont want to outright pay the prices asked for new PAYG as they are expensive, and as Im happy enough with my plan and usage, I dont really want to go to a bill pay plan just to get a newer phone on the never never, but its looking like the cheaper more reliable (Warrantiable) option.

Id considered a buying a replacement phone online, maybe some Chinese brand or just something thats known brand but a bit more obscure and not available here, some kind of lenovo with dual SIM option, not keen on the wait though, where'd be a good site to buy something like that?

    Don't worry about that.

A simple solution is to take a picture of the receipt. Although, in this particular case, you might want to email the picture to yourself.

Same here, as the receipt won't be as clear in 3yrs, lol.

Staff in my local Aldi told me to scan the receipt in, when i mentioned the state of the receipt in that time, when he told me to do that & thought i'll take a picture & do the same thing you mentioned to email it to yourself as when anything goes wrong, you'll be emailing it to the company to avail of the warranty, like i did with a Lidl lawnmower :D

3rd Gen Moto G can be got for €139 on Meteor PAYG. Is IP7 Waterproof with better camera (13mp double LED).

it does have only 8GB but will be getting Marshmellow soon which allow SD cards to be used as internal storage.

As an aside, I notice PC World now send you an email copy of receipts.

    Is this phone unlocked ?

Is there better around for the price? That's a subjective question, but probably Yes, but I guess where is the question. I think if you look around, you will find a better phone for this price or less, but it might take a bit of effort.

Its a fair ugly phone too. Plastic, small screen, cheap old design

Its brutal, no redeeming features whatsoever, take your money over to the Chinese Android Phones thread and see what you can get.
