We're looking at flying into Barcelona and taking a train or bus up to 2 or 3 hours away. It will be the first leg of our honeymoon (pre cruise out of Barcelona) Looking for a nice hotel within walking distance to a town or village. Kind of ruled out Salou and Lorret de mar. Looking for somewhere a bit less touristy and quaint. If anyone has any recommendations for a town or particular hotel it would be much appreciated :)

    Hi,
Have you heard of Begur on the Costa Brava? It is a beautiful little town and we have been there many times. I can't rate the place highly enough. It is just fantastic. There are lots of little coves and beaches nearby and nice coastal footpaths that wind around the headlands. In September there is also a Cuban festival which is well worth a visit too.

Have a look at this hotel. We haven't stayed there but we have eaten in the lovely restaurant many times. The restaurant is very romantic and is aptly named 'Made with Love' (in Catalan).

And our other favourite restuarant in the town is this one called Platillos.

You could consider flying in to Girona airport as it is only about 45 minutes to Begur. Girona is also a nice city to wander around. You could see easily it in a day.

If you go, do let me know about it. I would love to hear of your experience there.

We have also stayed in Tossa de Mar which is much classier that it's neighbouring Lloret de Mar. Tossa is nice too, but I would take Begur over it any day!

Good luck with the wedding & honeymoon too!

    JT.

Begur sounds nice. Noted for future reference.

Further north, Cadaques is nice and the adjacent (walking distance) Port Ligat with Dali's summer home. I probably wouldn't recommend it in high season though. Stunning coastline around Cap Creus.

    Hi,
Yes Cadaques & Port Lligat are lovely too. Dali's home sure is a great visit.

Thank you both for the recommendations. From a quick google of the places mentioned they all look lovely and just like the kind of places we'd enjoy. I'll do some deeper research tomorrow and pick one...maybe a great hotel might be the deciding factor between them...that's my Sunday sorted!! The help is much appreciated :)
