Hi guys i have an oil burner and yesterday it just stopped working so we thought it was the oil and we got oil today and we were just going to bleed it but there was oil coming out

so then we wanted to start up the burner and we can hear it running but it doesn't fire up as we can here the spark like every few seconds trying to fire up but it actually won't fire up.

So if anyone know's what could be wrong please let me know.

Burner Model Number: Grant 50-90 Euroflame

Sounds similar to a problem I had a couple of years ago, we needed a new pump. If that's what it is, we paid around 90 for a grundfos, + fitting costs.

But since the oil is going into the burner would it not be something else?

The solonid coil is a common part to go on that model burner you can check it with a multi meter or put something name if iron in the hole when it should be powered and see if you can feel the magnetic field.

When you say "there was oil coming out" are you talking of the bleed point in the pump?

It takes an experienced ear to hear the spark. I think what you are hearing is an attempt to fire.
How many inches if oil do you have in the tank ? When was it last serviced ?

not too sure what you are hearing it could possibly be overaired

Are you saying it keep attempts to fire but does not go to lock out?

Yes it attempts to fire and what do you mean by lock out? like if i leave it on it just keeps trying to fire up every few seconds but i can hear the fan or what ever makes the other noise.

My opinion.the burner lights for a split second and the fan/ air is blowing out the flame.if nobody adjusted the air settings it points to not enough fuel getting through the nozzle.it could be just a partially blocked nozzle or the fuel pump.you will need a pressure gauge to test the pump.what model and make of burner is it..,you can do a simple test by giving the burner less air to see will it start,my money would be on a partially blocked nozzle

Sounds like pump or nozzle problem. It may take a pressure gauge to diagnose if it's a pump problem.

Do you have the last service report. I am interested in knowing what O2 was then. JimF is considering that that may be the problem

You see it stopped working yesterday and so i thought it was the oil cause we didn't order for a long time so then i ordered oil yesterday for today but then when i came home my wife said she checked the tank when the dude with the oil came and said that the tank was half full so we didn't run out of oil so something must of went off as we didn't touch the boiler.

It may have always been getting too much air, but only reacting to it now that it has gotten colder and the air denser. That is why I asked for O2

    What is the O2?

pump could be slipping also if burner is a r40 it will be obvious by the damper opening and closing constantly

only another uneducated guess for ye parrots wear/agusta

If it's the burner I think it is on the front there's a black Plastic cover held on by an allen head screw take off this and under it you'll see a wire going into what looks like a plastic connector pull this out and clean the glass bit on the end.

I think we have gone as far as we can in helping. Most of the conclusions we have come to will require a techintion to fix.

To clean photocell remove the red cover pull out the photocell and clean the end with a damp cloth. It's the thing with a wire going into it right in the middle of the burner at the top

no screws just wiggle it gently from side to side don't just try and pull it straight back

you should see a little clear glass eye at the end a moist cotton bud is handy for cleaning it don't tell agusta

on another note that flue on top of boiler looks like its leaking pocs as well and does look smoky

maybe time for a service and tune up is long overdue
