Maybe it's just me but I am trying to secure a new position (IT) but as a junior, finding it very tough. I get to interview stage and either I'm too nervous and I do a bad interview (my own fault) or there is someone else with more experience they go for. I'm feeling a little bummed out. I've a friend who only began looking a month ago and he's had 3 interviews, two job offers and a massive pay increase, with what seems like a terrific company. The current place are also bending over backwords to try and keep him on. No such luck for me. Then again he is very senior in a particular area and is certified.

I dunno but I felt like I needed to get this off my chest. Anyone else in IT finding similar? I work in application support but it's very hard to get a new position, or even move out into say, development. It seems the job market is all about senior people and junior roles are few and far between.

I have been in your position and moved to the UK for work in IT. It depends what area you want to work in and what certs/ experience you have . Most IT jobs are Dublin based which means its impossible to get accommodation and cost of rent is threw the roof. I would personally recommend get as many Industry certs as you can and keep applying for level 1/ junior positions you will eventually get something you just have to keep trying .Good developers are in demand and the pay can be excellent but its a very demanding job and very tedious I couldn't do it for all the money in the world. but as I said keep trying get the certs and it will eventually fall into place for you.

Finding it nigh on impossible to get a job. I'm barely even getting replies off the ones I do apply for.

Are you interviewing for jobs that are a bit of a stretch - you say you're app support and looking to move into development. Are you interviewing at the junior dev level or the entry level? If you're trying to change path in IT, you often have to take a little step backwards, especially when moving towards development.

Or if you're interviewing for app support roles are you aiming for senior roles?

    This ^^

Yeah very few companies reply to the job application, making you wonder if they have even seen your application/cv

I did apply for something yesterday through a recruitment agency and literally got a call 5 minutes later
