If a delivery company will hire a newly qualified driver is up to them, if they do then you need to display N plates.

Have wondered about this meself. Depends on if the company is willing to hire a "n" plated driver, under the old system I doubt it'd have been an issue but know... I can see some companies being slightly reluctant due to the "n" designation.

Anyone here a delivery driver with an "n" plate? Would to like hear of their experiences in securing employment as a driver. I think age might come into play here, quite a few companies tend to require their drivers to be over 25 for insurance purpose I believe. Unless of course your subbing as a courier, obviously that's not an issue, but a whole different ball game compared to being directly employed to drive by a company.

I know but you know what is crazy? you do your full licence driver! and you want work in Delivery driver position where they need full licence drive and joke is that you are full licence driver but you have stupid N! you drive over 1 years in N plates plus few years on L drivers. And have big problem to find the work in Delivery Driver position! If you will doing your licence driver one day before august 2014 you get without N plate and my friend make in september 2014 and nobody want him on delivery driver because He has N! but first man have full licence and my friend also but my friend make that 3 days after new rules coming. THIS IS really joke! you have full licence driver and you have problem to find work not that the company say you dont have experience but that you have N plates! no matter you are full licence driver! this is stupid! Someboy make n driver one day before august 2014 and have without N plates and he get work in DPD but my friend make full licence driver 3 days after him and dont get this work because he is on N plates! he and this person have 1 year time full licence driver just 3 days different but this person dont have N is very not good.... and no fair...

I feel for ye man, it is a bit ridiculous but it's really down to management / hr thinking, well, he's a relatively new fully licensed driver, they're thinking in risk assessment terms, there's a lot of guys out there to choose from, they can pick to suit.
It may come down to the insurance companies are not willing to insure a driver for deliveries with an "n" plate.
Not really fair, but between management/hr and the insurance companies, you'll most likely have to wait it out.

I'd suggest maybe takeaway deliveries in the meantime maybe to get something going¿? Not sure what the money is like these days, but a friend of mine done it for a Chinese place a couple of years ago.
He was getting around 70-95€ after the paying for juice, never less than €60.

I know dominoes in swords are looking for drivers now if that's near you. Dunno how they pay(could be min. wage with some mileage allowance, could be per delivery. If you averaged say 5-6 an hour @ €2 and get enough hours, could a decent enough earner till those poxy "n" plates come off)

Best of luck with the hunt anyway.

I saw a delivery van in Kerry a few weeks ago with magnetic N Plates. Looked a bit strange but I guess that's the law! Not a huge problem, they can be taken off easily of someone else is using the van.

Attach an 'N' plate to the sun visor and pull down the sun visor when approaching a checkpoint!!

Sun visors on the rear of the van these days?

Btw, Delivery driving isn't covered by social, domestic & leisure insurance either. Nor is driving a commercial vehicle.

This is for the front of the vehicle!
