I broke my ankle in July and needed to get a few screws and a plate in my ankle.

Does anyone know how they will affect me trying to get through airport security.
Do i tell them before I walk through the scanner? Or just walk through and then tell them if it beeps?

What about on my return journey in Germany?

    Thanks

OP, the body scanners are set to go off randomly even when the person is clean, this is to ensure that nobody can be guaranteed to get through without being pulled over for frisking.

So the security people know that if the alarm sounds, it might be a 'false positive'. If the alarm goes off just let them frisk you and you'll be sent on your way pretty fast. Tell them about the metal if you like but it won't make a blind bit of difference, they will still frisk you.

BTW..... If I was getting metal inserted into my body, the first thing I'd ask the consultant is 'will this metal set off an airport alarm?' Did it not occur to you to ask?

I have a plate in my cheekbone for the last 10 years and have been through airport security many times without issue

The last thing i would be thinking about if my leg was in bits is going on holidays to be honest?

I really don't know what's just happened here in our Travel forum. Posts far too far below our standards!

Posts deleted by me. Warnings Issued by me. Thread closed by me. Any more breaches of our forum charter will result in infractions and/or bans.

    Thanks,
