    Moved from Adverts.ie Support.

They are set so that only the drivers looking directly at the lights can see them.

It's to stop the other road users from jumping the lights on their side

Don't think anybody will stop this. Who wants to brake the law, that brake it!

I searched the location text from the OP's post and I got a warning that it's a possible phishing website?

They are also in place to block the sun and make the light easier to see.

There are some lights where it's virtually impossible to see which one is lit, if the sun is glaring.

    Yup. This is the reason.

Wasn't there a crash involving a Luas in city centre and the driver of the Luas said the reason he crashed was because he couldn't see the green/red light. The reason given was because of sun light shining on the lights.

Can't remember exact circumstances but I think the Luas driver thought it was green light and went straight through lights into a couple of cars. Not sure if he was charged as he said the sun light shining made the light look green

Soon after this I started to see these pop up around the city.....

There's a set of these in Drogheda, and it's more or less impossible to see the Green light until you are a few metres away

    https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.7246666,-6.3642144,3a,75y,138.13h,74.43t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sOkB7Eled3_8AkWqOdSx8yA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1?hl=en

If there's no other lights on, then it's likely it's green so just keep going and be prepared to jam on if it turns out they aren't green.

The reason for these vent/grill style fittings are fitted is when there are other lights very close to the other set.

People see the further green lights lit and a lot of times miss their set is red.

Also they are fitted where there is bad bridges or bends etc. drivers have to slow down.
