well lads, I recently bought a pen of weanlings in the mart, when I brought tem home I noticed that one of them had a large naval, my oul lad said it could be a sign of the gut fallen, is it dangerous, could the beast get sick from it or even die, thanks marknjb

Do you mean a heifer with a hernia? Or a bull with a swollen, eh, rod area.

Hernias are normally not dangerous, but the animals are not recommended for breeding from. If it's a swelling from infection it'll need treatment.

    Makes one nervous though.
Over the summer we ha a smashing Blonde heifer develop a large naval, probably hernia while jumping on other heifers.

I was a bit worried about it, she was about 500kgs but it Didn't seem to do her any harm.

It was dropping down around 8inches had to get the vet to give him antibiotics-Twice. Nearly lost him it wasn't a problem with his gut just a bad infection as far as I know.
