    hey guys,
we are down to our last few family members to think of for xmas presents. Two are quite tricky though.

One is for an elderly cousin (husband's godmother) who we are very close to. we have done books, shawl's. She is a widow with no kids.

2nd one for an uncle that we are close to and was diagnosed with a terminal illness in april that give about 3 years. next xmas will be very different for him we imagine as physically will be alot more restricted in things he can do. so we weren't sure if we should do something with perhaps really nice wine or even a night away with his wife. think we maybe too close to the situation to come up with any thoughtful idea's.

thanks for any suggestions in advance.

What does your elderly cousin like? Would she like things like throws, for example? I saw in Home Store + More velvet throws that are on offer all November (in the "When it's gone, it's gone" sale) in black and cream for €15 (down from €30). I'd also recommend if you see them around those Draylon blankets Lidl had in around September, lovely as a blanket or as a throw (I have a few myself and use as a throw and spare blankets). But you can also get throws in Dunnes and Pennys.
Would she like jewellery or anything like that? Newbridge Silverwear always have lovely items, including lovely gift wear, you can have a look online including their full 2015 catalogue as a pdf booklet.
You could get artisan chocolates, or if she likes for example cherry liquors Aldi stock a brand and M&S do their own brand. Ferrero used to do cherry liquors many years ago but they are only available in Germany now I think.
I suppose it depends on what you want to give... something practical for the house and home or herself to keep warm, something decorative, something to indulge in, something related to her hobbies and interests, or something that she needs or would like but wouldn't necessarily buy for herself..?

as for your uncle, that is tricky, I would suggest that you actually talk with him about anything he would like, especially if the time is 3 years and likely to be restricted on mobility within that time frame... it might have changed his perception on things a bit (but I suppose that depends on how he is handling things) or it might not have, he might just want the usual stuff for Christmas rather than experience or bucket list ticking. It might be a difficult conversation but consider it anyway to find out if whether an experience gift or a trip away would be really what he wants, or whether he would want contributions to a trip he's always wanted to do or not.
