GPU that won't be bottlenecked by Q6600

Hi all, I currently have a PC with a Q6600 clocked at 2.6GHz and a GT640 2GB DDR3 to go along with it.

While I'm happy with the performance overall, I feel a new GPU would still enhance gaming performance.

I have a 600W Ankermann PSU (computer is an Ankermann build).

    Suggestions?

    Can you OC?

6600s can be clocked up to 150% easy, gives a lot more room to play with. I've got a 7870 in there and in most titles the GPU is the limit.

A GTX 750TI looks like a good option if this is to be believed: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2081055/evga-gtx-750-2gb-640-3gb.html

The CPU will be a bottleneck for some games but most rely a lot more heavily on the GPU. The 750TI won't break the bank and if you don't find it working correctly then a CPU/MOBO/RAM upgrade can still make use of the 750TI in the future.

Realistically unless you are willing to push a massive overclock and accept that you will still be CPU bottlenecked in new titles, it's not worth it.

Games like GTA V, Battlefield 4, Fallout 4, etc will run run like garbage on a Q6600 unless it was overclocked to almost world record levels - and even then it would be poor.

I had to OC a Q6600 to almost 4Ghz to get 30-35fps on Battlefield Hardline online.

If its more stuff like CS: Go, and other generally less intensive games you should be OK and yes you would benefit from a new card.

Personally I would get a 2nd hand GTX650 for about 50 euro and call it a day. A GTX750Ti would be wasted on a Q6600.

I'll actually try GTA V on the current setup and see how it does.

New PC completely isn't really an option. I got a good deal on what I have now (paid less than for a used PS3) so I'd want to keep this on a tight budget.

I'm on stock cooling, so wouldn't dare to go above 2.7GHz really.

You can pickup a good cooler for €20, no brainer IMO.

Is the low profile GTX 750 any good?

Very capable budget card but will be majorly bottlenecked by the Q6600 unless you take it to 3.5Ghz+.

In some games like Battlefield online it will be bottlenecked no matter how much you overclock it.

Just depends on exactly what you're playing really. Some games will be more kind to the Q6600.

Overall I still think a 2nd hand €50 7770 or GTX650 is plenty to spend on such an old system - and either would be twice as fast as the GT640.
