Query re driving test and out of date provisional licence

My provisional "C" license is out of date from 16th of Jan 2016.
I have not booked a driving test as yet.
I would like to do a few practice driving lessons with a registered driving instructor in the town where my driving test would be taking place but at the moment I am so busy I cannot see me having the time between now and the new year.
If all else fails and I cannot get a test date before my provisional license expires can I still sit the test?

They won't let you sit the test on an expired license that's for sure it's one of the first things they check.

    Thanks for that :)
I need to get my act in order so and prioritise some pre test lessons and book a test for before the 16th of Jan.

You can renew your permit up to 3 months early which may suit you.

If this was your first C category in the last five years (notation 991 will be on your permit) you won't have to have a test booking on file to renew the permit. If your current permit is on 992 or 993, you will have to book the test before renewing the permit.

However, whether you do it now or wait until later, you won't be able to take a test (as above) or even lessons without a valid learner permit.

First permit 991 on my license and when I checked it is actually valid until the 29th of Jan 2016.
I have just completed the RSA driving test booking form and paid for the test.
I thought that the site would show what dates were available for me to choose but it didn't :(

They will contact you with a booking date and you can rearrange it if it doesn't suit.
