    Rega RP1
Hi I need a bit of help choosing a turntable and speakers.

Want to get a decent turntable and speakers to start lisning to vinyl.
Thinking of the audioengine a5+ speakers.
    And the Rega RP1 turntable.

    What phono should I get.
And would the amp in the a5 speakers be ok.

Plus how hard would it be to hookup a cd receiver to this setup later.

They have only have 1 RCA input - which is passive so your going to need a preamp for the turntable and to use a CD at some point your going to need a RCA switcher ; so short answer Yes completely "doable"

However at €370 you could buy a (new) full sized amp and speaker set for about the same money which would give you a far better scope to expand ( turntable , CD player , phone etc )

What do you think would be a better setup for around the €400 mark

    Pioneer have a €200 & €259 amp , Onkyo have a €249 amp ( A9010 ) which won the what Hifi 5 star

You cant beat the Q Acoustics series for value approx €170/180 new or keep an eye on adverts/done deal for the speakers. Am a bit wary of buying cheap old amps.

What is the advantage of spending more on the amp than the speakers.

Is the a5+ not a very good option then.

Well traditional Hifi uses passive speakers ( unless you are using Electrostatic ), the a5 are active. Speakers usually represent the final tone of the sound, while the amp dictates the feel. This is represented by the terms "Warm, bright, soft, transparent, sharp, chrisp, neutral, clinicall" and so on.
The better speaker option is alway let down by the amp.
A lower end speaker will perform better on a higher spec amp (in theory pushing it to the edge of its capabilities). But because it's traditional Hifi you might be better off getting a more expensive amp and purchase an 2nd hand pair of speakers (1 to 2 years old)
Don't forget most Hifi has a reasonable resell value, if the speakers are "so - so" then you can trade up for a better pair in the new year.

Oh just a personal opinion, ignore the "standard" rp1 unless it comes with an ortaphone cartridge.
