If it's not too personal do you mind me asking your gross wages and what tax credits you get?

Well this tax calculator say your weekly take home should be 316 per week, so your current earnings sound right.

Is it PAYE, PRSI or USC that it says you are paying the 1.40 on?

I've figured it out now I think.

The way payroll works is that every week, it not only does the weekly calculation, but it looks at the credits you have and checks if you have gone over them.

For your credits, you hit the point where your weekly wages gross, are adding up to an annual figure over the tax free limit by mid June, so then the system starts taking the tax off you.

That's all that happened, you hit the yearly limit in terms of the total and it was adjusted to reflect what you owe each week/month.
