    Im going to replace the thermostat in my Audi but there seems to be so many conflicting guides on how to change it. Some say the coolant must be drained first and others say that no coolant should be drained.

    Has anyone changed a thermostat on this model before? Thanks

    Can't see it matters much whether coolant is drained or not - some will be lost anyway when stat is removed .
    If thermostat is located low down on the engine then you will lose most of the coolant when you remove it ;
    If stat is high up not so much coolant lost;
    Make sure to get air out of system when refilling - (make sure warm air coming from heater for example - air locks often occur in the heater matrix and if air is warm it means coolant is circulating ).
    If rad has a tap on it at the bottom you can drain it into a container - avoids mess and could be reused .

    How do I get the air out of the system when refilling the coolant?
