Hey thanks for the shout, I yet to see the price that low. I've never bought from french amazon before, have you had any issues with their customer service? This doesn't appear to be a third party seller, so I think I might go for it.

I bought a Moto X 2014 from Amazon France at the end of June when price dropped a bit. It packed up 2 weeks ago and Motorola are trying to claim the warranty expired the 5th of November and screw me out of €180 for repair.

It's your choice but don't say you weren't warned by someone who has gone this route and regretted it. Motorola are a disgrace nowadays. Lenovo have destroyed any semblance of customer care in them. It is looking like I will have to resort to legal means to get what I am entitled to, absolute nightmare.

Same. Has anyone bought from Amazon France and actually experienced their warranty returns process firsthand?

I'm wonding if postage back to France would be paid for by Amazon?

What about the language barrier? For example their online chat states French speaking support personnel only.

Amazon aren't the real problem. But if you can't communicate in French, then it is probably not advisable as you won't be able to get your message across or understand what Amazon.fr support staff are telling you. They are just a marketplace like eBay on which Motorola have an online store.

I didn't get in touch with Amazon, as when the cellular radio failed in my phone Motorola support informed me to send the phone to their repair centre out in Sandyford, and I figured this would be a no hassle deal and I'd have the phone back in less than a week. How wrong was I.
The repair crowd said that my phone was received by them one day before the absurdly short warranty deadline that Moto are claiming and that they would in fact do it under warranty. The repair status shows waiting for parts, due at the start of December, but underneath it says unit out of warranty €180.

Yesterday, from Motorola UK I got an e-mail follow up to the communication I had with one of their utterly unhelpful Indian call centre staff two weeks ago, stating that I would have to pay. The left hand at Motorola doesn't know what the right hand is doing, the only thing certain is that both hands have no interest in retaining customers.

The problem is completely with Motorola, who in my case appear to be claiming the time my phone warranty began was November of 2014, a full 8 months before I purchased it!
This was probably the time that the phone was manufactured and left the factory, but their attempt to screw me out of 8 months warranty for time that the phone was probably just sitting in a warehouse waiting to be sold is outrageous.

I've never had a bad experience with Motorola in the past, but like you say there is the language barrier if it all goes pear shaped. It's a shame that we cant buy directly from Motorola in the UK. It's not a deal breaker that I cannot customize the phone but it's an annoying scenario for Irish buyers. I've this particular phone online at Expansys, amazon uk, amazon France and Spain. But I'd rather avoid the exchange rate in the UK, the Spanish price appears to be just as high and I've heard a million horror stories about Expansys customer service. I reckon I will end up buying from amazon uk, may just wait until Black Friday to check for other phone deals.

I hope you (or anyone else) never run into the problem like I am having, but beware. If something does go wrong you may end up in the same boat as me. They are not the company they used to be prior to the Lenovo sale. :(

I still have my Moto X 2014 from amazon.fr, thanks to duridian's post back in June this year for the lead. It's going well, love the handset, in fact the phone is so nice the ankle-biters are banned from using it! I have the phone only 5 months, that's not long at all so don't expect it to have any mishaps provided I take care of it!

I don't have any bad experience with amazon.fr or Motorola as everything is going ok and haven't had to test them. Thankfully, touch wood, everything is going in the right direction.

Duridian, I'd question the warranty under the two-year rule. You've only had it 5 months, and even if they say its a 2014 model, the two-year rule under EU law should hold up.

Well at present I am holding on until the start of December, when the repair centre say the parts needed for my phone will be in, before doing much more about it.

Fonfix say they will do it under the Motorola warranty which they say it just scraped in under by a day. (There was a horse fair in town the day before I posted it off, so I was avoiding going to town over that. You couldn't imagine that 1 day delay could potentially have been so important, until you encounter something like this.)

So I am hoping that at least they have some decency and competence and will keep to their word, unlike the Indian staff (who think the text equivalent of shouting at a customer is acceptable; UNIT IS OUT OF MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY YOU MUST PAY and generally being rude and unhelpful in capital letters during our webchat session) and UK staff of Motorola who have been a nightmare. Not one of them took the least bit of notice or consideration of the fact that the phone was bought at the end of June and continue to try and shove it down my throat that their systems say "the unit is out of warranty".

I have been in touch with Irish branch of the European Consumer Centre and briefed them on this in case I need more assistance pending the outcome of the repair.
    :(
