Would anyone have suggestions on where to get prescription sunglasses? I have my prescription and have purchased glasses online previously. I've been quoted nearly €500 for a pair from local opticians.

I did get a pair of from here last year Smart buy glasses for about €200 but I don't rate them as the glasses didn't meet expectations. The lenses proved not to be prescription all over. A friend also tried this company and found them difficult to deal with as they seem to be based in Hong Kong.

I came across these as well

If anyone has other sites or recommendations that would be welcome.

    €500

My 'good' sunglasses got stolen and I needed a pair for the car so picked up a pair plus a pair of normal glasses for £69 from Specsavers over here.

A quick google suggests that a similar offer is available in Ireland for £89.

Now there's nothing special about those glasses but you can up the budget a little and get yourself whichever frame you like best.

Assuming that you haven't got an unusual prescription I think that you could do a whole lot better just by walking into another local optician.

Another alternative is to just buy a pair of sunglasses. Any optician will be happy to replace the lenses with your prescription. Do have a quick word with your optician first about the style of frame e.g. curved frames won't work for many short sighted people.

    Thanks for suggestions on that.

The type I'm probably looking for are wrap around sunglasses which I should have said from the outset of course.

I thought that was pretty mad on price even for those though. Unfortunately I do have a somewhat non-standard prescription so that seems to be a contributing factor.

I've used goggles4u.com for regular and prescription sunglasses and they are usually great value as well.
