Developer Facilities - Telecommunications Infrastructure

Moved into a new house - ordered Eir - Eir site survey revealed that developer had never contacted them when houses were being built and no infrastructure exists between main road and houses within the development - Eir will only offer a FCS service (essentially a sattelite phone, no cables, no internet, tv etc) which I assume meets their legal obligations

Planning conditions do not mention telecommunications so the developer seems to be off the hook?

Am I missing something here or has our developer's incompetence left us with no fixed line for as long as we live in the house?

not really.. telecommunications is not a prerequisite to comply with "site development works for housing areas" as required by DOEHLG

it obviously makes the houses more attractive to purchase therefore its in the developers interest to put them in, but theres no statutory reason to.

why did you move into a house that had no telecommunications, if it was going to be an issue?

I naively assumed the infrastructure existed and was snagging the house rather than it's environs.

Sorry OP - sounds like you are in a bit of a predicament. Very short sighted of the developer! A few comments but I'm sure you've already looked into them:

    1. Any chance you are in one of the towns scheduled for Siro? http://siro.ie/roll-out/ - that will go through the ESB ducts when/if it becomes available in your estate.

    2. For the time being look into what type of fixed wireless is available in your area.

    3. If you can find some way of getting a duct from your house to the main road / nearby telephone pole Eir would possible give you a connection through the duct.

    4. Make sure your estate is added to the list of areas that will be covered by the new government national broadband plan. i.e. Make sure your estate is orange on this map http://www.dcenr.gov.ie/communications/en-ie/Broadband/Pages/National-Broadband-Plan-Map-.aspx If it's not orange, in theory, someone has committed to provide high speed broadband connectivity prior to the cut-off date.

Sorry for your trouble but. ..you're on your own here.

I live between 2 exchanges, and the 'fibre' cable stops 300m one side of me and about 500m the other. Neither will extend to reach me or my 3 neighbours.

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
