    Question 1 - Trying to pay a bill

    If you experience difficulties paying your bill online, we recommend you try using different browsers and clearing your history.

    If you receive a payment error, and the matter is ongoing, could you advise what stage of the payment process you reached before you received this error message?

    As this may be sensitive information, and so you do not divulge any personal details, we recommend you PM your answer and we will be more than happy to investigate this for you.

    Question 2 - Check for Leaks Letter

    Water meters are fitted with a constant flow alarm, which will alert Irish Water if there is an excessive amount of water being used at a property throughout a 48 hour period.

    Irish Water will notify metered customers if the water meter for their home indicates that there may be a leak on their property. This notification will provide advice and information on the steps to identify the location of that leak. Customers are asked to complete four simple checks around their home to identify if they have an internal plumbing issue which may be causing the constant flow of water to their property. Customers must:

    - Check the toilet for a constant sound of water running from the cistern;
    - Check the water storage tank to see if it is refilling when water appliances are not in use;
    - Check all household and external taps for drips; and
    - Check water consuming appliances for plumbing issues such as dripping joints.

    After completing these checks, if an internal leak cannot be identified, customers are advised to contact us to request a free leak investigation. We will carry out some simple checks over the phone to determine if we can complete a leak investigation survey.

    Question 3 – Water Quality Results

    Irish Water provide the service to check water quality results for your area on our website. You can find results for your area here (water quality page link)

    Question 4 - Bill question

    If you apply online and update the account as having a septic tank, bills will only charge for water coming into their property, and not wastewater, on future bills.

    However, if you would like the current bill to be corrected and re-issued, we would suggest that the account holder call us on 1890 448 448 to amend these details.

    As previously advised, the account holder can nominate a person present during the phone call, with their permission, to be an authorised representative and register the property on their behalf with their permission. During this phone call, the account can be updated to ensure accurate billing.

    Question 5 - Tenant of private property - have missed grant

    Irish Water advises that the person who primarily lives in the property register their details with us on 1890 448 448 and ensure accurate billing.

    We advise tenants to call in order to make us aware that they are financially responsible for the property and to update the correspondence to ensure they receive their bills.

    If you have not previously registered over the phone, we suggest you do so and you will be eligible to apply for the Water Conservation Grant in 2016, and if you would like to manage your Irish Water account easily, we suggest that you set up an online account
    here.
