    Hi Guys

I have two chimneys and the wind howls through them very louldly , one is a bedroom and it makes it very difficult to sleep there.

I stuffed one pillow in a plastic bag up them last night and it does a great job. My question is , is this safe ? I have read stuff about the chimney needing ventilation ?

We dont have any open fires, there are electric fires in both and turned on rarely. Why does the chimney need ventilation? There are windows in these rooms just like other rooms - is this ventilation need for gas fires ?

A plastic kids’ football is what I have heard recommended

Buy a chimney balloon. They've been around for a long time & you still can't beat them. Very cheap too

would a chimney balloon fit a chimney that is designed for a stove ?

Whatever you stuff up there , attach a string to aid retrieval and act as a reminde in case someone decides to light a fire..

Definitely. You only inflate it as much as needed. Pretty much one size fits all

Not sure this is true. I have seen three different sizes so be careful.

If it is an older house there will be plenty of air leaks and you can block up the chimney no probs.
I would not bother paying for a chimney balloon. Good idea, too expensive.
A pillow in refuse sack sounds aok.
BUT leave something hanging down the chimney as a reminder.
I have had 2 or 3 FCUK! moments where i lit the fireplace under a blocked chimney. I had to pull stuff out of the chimney fast.
