I'm torn between buying new Audi A6 or Mercedes E class.

Should I be worried about rear wheel drive in Merc?

Leg room in A6 not as good as I had expected. It's front wheel drive but still has driveshaft tunnel in back (presumably for Quattro models).

Reliability? Cost to service? Road tax? Bells & whistles? (Sat Nav, Bluetooth, etc)

Any help will be appreciated.

What spec models are you looking at and how do they compare price wise?

Basic automatic diesels on both..... They both have decent level of spec.

There is an all new e class next year which looks like a bigger version of the c class so the current model will look dated quickly.
However both good cars so I would say it boils down to personal preference mostly

The new E Class is being launched early in 2016, you would want to be getting a super deal on the current one to consider it at this stage. Audi A6 is getting on a bit too, it's been around since 2011.

Have you looked at the new Jaguar XF?

I guess it will be the default option then.

Isn't a 520d the default option now. Getting an e class or a6 is being adventurous these days ;)

520d is the mondeo for the aspiring classes nowadays.

That's not taking anything away from it by the way. I've had two and would recommend one over the e class or A6 to be honest.
If picking between the op's two it would be the Audi I think.

I drive a 2015 Audi A6 190bhp auto box. It's a lovely comfortable car for long trips. Haven't had any problems with it. The only thing that niggles me is I feel the xenons aren't as bright as the xenons on my F10. I'd have a good test drive of both maybe ask the dealer if you could have a loaner of each for 24 hours. Best of luck.
