I have a 1.2 Skoda Fabia Ambiente petrol car that was giving intermittent starting trouble lately (now not starting at all).
it is turning over but won't fire. no fault showing on dash and a fitted a new battery not so long ago. the previous times I would try to start it a few times but eventually it would fire up and no running problems (spluttering etc) at all once going. wondering is there anything simple I could try before going to the professionals???? any help appreciated.

probably could do with a service around now. thought about the dodgy petrol alright but got some in a different place this time hoping it would help but to no avail.

    Why the uncertainty?

Why not address the problem the first time? Sounds ignition related which mightn't be too expensive.

well, the fact the problem was going away for a while and that I thought it might be some bad fuel I thought it might be okay once the bad fuel had been burnt off. will get it checked out. was just wondering was there anything simpe I could check. thanks.

I wonder whether it is temperature related? Does it struggle to sart when the temp is cold? Its common enough for coolant temp sensors to cause hard starting issues on many VW engines. Not easy to check without a multimeter or diagnostic equipment. Perhaps ask at your annual servive to have a global scan for codes that may not yet be triggering the engine light...
