When did you last have a plug fuse blow?

My bench saw packed up a while back and blew the fuse in the plug, went to replace it and I realised when I couldn't find a spare anywhere in the house that it must have been 10 years or more since I lasted needed to replace a fuse.

So I wondered what other peoples experiences of blown plug fuses are? I can remember years back when I always had spare fuses because I needed them regularly. Have I been lucky for the last 10 years or have appliances got better and safer?

Only once ever, the lead on the iron got frayed and the L & N wires shorted. There was one hell of a bang! It blew the plug top fuse and it also tripped the MCB in the fuseboard.

A lot of plug top fuses are too big. No point having a 13A fuse in a table light.

I had the lead of a PC charger go intermittent and heating up before shorting out and go up in smoke, then the fuse blew (5A).
All the fuse does is protect the cable and prevent what it failed to do in this case!

Fortunately, no damage except for scaring my son & the missus.

Technology has advanced to the point the fuses don't blow anymore.

The fuse blew in the plug for the cooker extractor fan months ago. I replaced it yesterday. I had spare fuses there which surprised herself. She even admitted she'd have 'fcuked them in the bin' if she had come across them.
