Failed NCT - are these big issues?

    Hi All

Just failed NCT and I am wondering whether it's worth fixing the car. Any idea how much these would cost to fix?

Brakes - Ovality 93% and 94% on rear axle
Underbody - properly advanced corrosion offside
Shock Absorber nearside front leaking oil

Are these big issues as I haven't a clue and the tester was less than helpful with any advice?

    Car is a 00 Punto.

    Any advice greatly appreciated!

My first advice is that a ? denotes a question, not a full stop or exclamation.

Secondly, these issues you can't do DIY. I suggest ring a couple local mechanics and get quotes for the issues.
Change both shocks, not just the leaking one.

Moved from DIY section to main forum.

The rust could be the game changer tbh. Don't bother fixing anything else till someone has a look at it.
Puntos are very cheap. Might be more economical to get a different car.

Thanks - excuse my ignorance but who would you get to look at it - a mechanic?

Get a panel beater to look at the rust. Mechanic for the other jobs.

Don't bother. Scrap the car & move onto the next one

A good mechanic will be able to tell you if the rust issues are repairable as well as do the other jobs required.

The corrosion may not be that deep and can be cleaned and touched up.

Like said above, change both shocks not just the leaking one.

The brakes are a simple enough fix.

randomly selected Punto for sale €750 with T&T. Might cost you nearly that to get yours fixed and tested. I agree with Jesus.

Unless that has other equally expensive problems.

It has a fairly long NCT and tax. If it does, just repeat the exercise

Its a bad idea to rely solely on a NCT as to the condition of car.

How could it if its just passed the NCT? The OP's car failed on all the items he listed. Its virtually certain that car is in better shape than the OP's

not what I'm advocating at all.

Nct can be fooled. There are also things it doesn't check. One car might have a loads of new parts the other night have load of expensive builds looming.

Get a couple of quotes from more than one recommended mechanics before proceeding.

If you are going to do banger economics then which ever is cheaper for that year fix car or buy one with nct.
