Advice on dead Sony phone to get photos

A friend of mine who has a Sony Xperia phone but they spilled orange yesterday on it & now it won't turn on.
He has photos on the phone of the first few months of their baby that are NOT backed up - no Google account or Dropbox account set up on the phone.
He is going to leave it for a day to dry out in rice and the hotpress to see if this works.
But if it doesn't work, is there anywhere that he can go to just get the photos from the phone?

I don't need advise on how he can backup the photos etc when it does work & what he should have done (biting tongue on this one).

Just really need to know of any places he can go to salvage the photos or how he can dry the phone out?

Try connecting it to a PC or laptop via USB cable, and see if it shows up as an external drive

Is he using on board storage or an sd card?

An sd card be extracted and inserted into a pc.
If it's on board storage there are specialist companies but they cost a fortune.

Its also worth double checking the photos aren't backed up. In my experience backups can be running but the user just doesn't know it.

Thanks guys - checking all these with him.

Regarding to backing up - he uses Eircom email. But on Sony phones, is there in-built apps that may be backing up the photos & if so, what?

The type of sd card will be a 'micro sd' card and will usually need a normal sized sd card holder, which the micro sd card slots into.

Both micro sd cards and the holders are available as a kit in your local tesco technical shelf, beside the other phone bits and pieces like earphones.

Look for a folder on the micro sd card called "Camera" or "DCIM" this is where the pictures will be stored, if on the sd card.

Good Luck and let us know how you got on.

It's possible Google photos was backing up photos. But you would have to check.

I wouldn't be turning it on so quickly. Should be leaving it in a container of rice in the hot press for a few days. No point rushing things now, it's as wet as it's going to get, but connecting it to a computer might do more harm right now. If the data is valuable, maybe a professional might be a better option at this stage.

Have the person go to https://photos.google.com/ while logged into their google account, see if they have anything.
