Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

i3 Charging Anxiety

I'm having an issue with my i3 and off peak charging, I only got the car on Saturday. Used "Immediate Charge" and "Departure Time Preconditioning" the first few nights - all ok.

Tuesday night at 9pm - setup "Off Peak Charging" (which is set to 23:01 - 08:00) and Pre conditioning for 7:45am. All seemed ok. Checked on the i Remote app at 10pm and it had a charging error - I reset to "Immediate Charge" and it worked ok.

Wednesday night at 9:30pm - setup "Off Peak Charging" and Pre conditioning for 7:45am. Checked a few times on i Remote app - no issues. Checked the app again next morning and it had "charging error" with a 05:14 update time. Went to the car and the charging surround was flashing red but it was preconditioned with capacity down to 98%

Thursday night at 9pm - setup "Off Peak Charging" and Pre conditioning for 7:45am. Checked a few times on i Remote app - no issues. Checked app this morning to find - Charging error 4:04AM - 53% capacity - Got in the car at 7:45 and it was preconditioned but only had 44km range!

Has anyone else experienced this or similar? If so how did you resolve it?

Dealer says it must be my settings but I've rechecked everything and I can't see what I am doing wrong, if anything.

Try a different EVSE. Could be a flaky installation?

looks like you are correct @samih - got home this evening, plugged in the car and two mins later car stops charging. Unplugged and restarted, it fails within a minute and the charger starts making weird clicking noises. Took car to ESB Charge point - no problems. Rang the installer - replacement box being fitted on Monday.

BMW did a terrible job with the off peak charging. I've often wished for a simple timer like on the leaf, which just works and works reliably.

Personally I moved to controlling charging using the EVSE.

Tom Moloughney has a good primer on preconditioning here:

Looks like it was the Charging Point and not the i3 - all ok this morning after setting night rate usage and preconditioning :)

Charging issues are well known for a couple of years now with the Renault Zoe and some EBG CPs in N.I. Some say it may be bad earthing at public CPs. The "Battery charging impossible' ,display on the dash may also result in the loss of cruise control and an inability to take a charge thereafter from other CPs as the software appears to have be affected. I avoid several villages where the Ecarni,NIE/ESB/EBG/and Renault have spectacularly avoided sorting this and other EV issues out. Can you imagine a diesel or petrol car that can't get fuel into the tank?
