    Hi,

    See bargin alert

    http://www.currys.ie/Product/samsung-ue50ju6800-smart-ultra-hd-4k-50-led-tv/333509/408.0

I have this for collection in store today, want to have a look at this before I pull the trigger but I am finding it hard to find a detailed review. Also any reviews from customes is hit and miss.

    A few questions:

    Anyone have this TV?

    Does this have HDMi 2.0?

Would this be a good future proof TV to by for the Price, seems a good deal just something in the back of my head is telling me to be cautious!

    Regards,
    BobbyT28

It does have HDMI 2.0 alright
or atleast according to this review here http://www.techradar.com/reviews/audio-visual/televisions/plasma-and-lcd-tvs/samsung-ue55ju6400-1292332/review.

Declares it as an 'entry level' 4K TV.

Not sure what to make of that, like on one hand its a 4K 50" form a good make for €1,000 but on the other, its probably older stock/model they are trying to get rid of quickly to make room for some new ones.

Cant say I know enough about TVs to say, but its possible this is one of those types where, while it is 4K and 'future proof', its a cheap 4K where you would be better off getting a top of the range 1080p instead, kinda 4K...

No idea on the spec but I'm pretty sure the RRSP on that TV is EUR1,199 and that's on sale at REGULAR PRICE in DID. So the reduction is closer to EUR200......just bear that in mind.

Also (and I'm not affiliated to them in anyway!) if you want the best bang for your buck, try richersounds.ie - they also have a 'Talk To' page on boards in the commercial forum that's worth looking at.

Your first mistake is buying from Curry's. Woeful customer care. Also, as mentioned, the RRP is nowhere near the €2000 mark. Curry's lie about the "was" price all the time.

+1 on all of the above.

It's definitely an older model and they probably got a bunch of them from Samsung on the cheap to clear at 999 and still make a decent margin.

Personally, when I hear of these "amazing, never to be repeated" price I'm a little sceptical.

That said, I think this will be more than adequate for about 99%+ of the general population. It's only the audiophile and AV Nerds like myself that would find a fault with it, maybe....

more discussion on that TV here
    http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/samsung-ue50ju6800-smart-ultra-hd-4k-50-led-tv-799-currys-2287902.

The review I linked is for the 6400 not the 6800 series! Some there seem to argue that they are the same thing other saying the 6400 is entry level while the 6800 is mid range.

    Overall though, Samsung 4K 50" for €1,000??
Only lacking 3D ...I bet both people interested in that will be disappointed.

Oh yes, and that. Since Declan left they have been a bit all over the place to put it mildly, and standards have dropped considerably.

Thats pretty much it in one really and what I mean by '50" 4K TV from Samsung for €1,000, where do you go wrong?'

I'd imagine this TV will be very impressive in anyone's sitting room.
Only thing is the OP said "future proof", by the time 4k content is a lot more available this TV's shortcomings might become more apparent.

If you're determined to buy in Currys......

    http://www.currys.ie/Product/sony-bravia-kd55x8509c-smart-3d-ultra-hd-4k-55-led-tv/331981/397.0.1

10% off if you order it online (bringing it almost within your budget) PLUS they're offering a FREE Sony Soundbar with this in the UK. I'd ask them to match that - an email or a call to HQ would help maybe - or else buy it in Newry and get your free soundbar. Actually their conversion is appalling, you'd be better off going up North if you want this. £899STG is approx EUR1280

    http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-and-home-entertainment/televisions/televisions/sony-bravia-kd55x8509c-55-tv-ht-ct80-2-1-sound-bar-bundle-10126710-pdt.html?srcid=3&cmpid=comp~Pricerunner

For another 300Euro or so (including petrol!) you'll get a much better TV and a soundbar.

Richer Sounds will give good recommendations and then google to see getting best price

Cheers for all the replies peeps. Much appreciated.

Went for the 49' sony KD49X8307CSU in the end. Got Free soundbar (which I'll be selling for €150) and 5 year warranty. €1,149

Just liked the whole Android TV look. Will work nicely with my synology (DS apps etc)

Any good apps to load/sideload onto tv

    Looks wonderful. Delighted.

    Hi,

Be interested to hear what are people's thoughts are on the Sony I bought and the deal I got?

    Sony TV
    soundbar (€200)
    5 year warranty

    I haven't opened it yet :D

I've always had Samsung so I actually am nervous about committing to this TV for the next 3-4 years!

Just came on to recommend this to too http://www.harveynorman.ie/tvs-headphones/hd-tvs/sony-49-led-tv-kd49x8307csu.html. Amazing tv and reduced in price since I bought it. Free soundbar as well. I'd imagine you could get another bit off with the right sales rep.

Bobby the tv is amazing and if you know what you're doing with KODI and all the other features that are built in your viewing needs really are catered for for the foreseeable future. I'm so happy with mine and delighted I rode out the raft of "Smart" TVs until this beauty came out. Enjoy :D

Yeah was bargaining a bit with him but he wasn't bugging!!

So you have the 49x8307CSU for awhile now?

What's your experience with it been like? Be really interested to find out.

What is android ui like, it looked good in the shop. Really problems with Netflix, freezing etc. Have you had any of these experiences?

Are the good at rolling out firmware updates to fix issues reported?

So all in all do you reckon from your experienc with the TV that this is a good one?

Sorry for all the Q's it's just that I have t op need it yet and have always had Samsung, did my research before but never looked at Sony until I was in Harvey Norman yesterday :o

    Thanks the reply,

It's possible I only got my discount as the price was about to drop and he had a conscience. Never knew that was possible with a sales rep though :p

For what I use it for right now which is 70% KODI, 20% PS4, 9% Saorview,1% Netflix I really can't fault it. It's not flawless, no tv would be but it's a million miles better than my previous setup (720p tv with KODI playing through ATV 2) and I've yet to see a to out there that competes with or betters it.

I think there was an update when I bought it and another one since. Not sure what bugs were fixed with them though.

Haven't noticed any problems with Netflix but my current Internet setup isn't quick enough for 4K streaming. Netflix and YouTube still look unbelievably good though!

Cheers man really appreciate you taking time to give me some feedback. I think I'm happy with this TV and after reading that review and hearing your experiences I feel a little more comfortable about my decision.

Did you get the soundbar as well? Does it sound good was thinking about selling it and putting the money towards a 5.1 setup. Which will bbe better but a little more money! But that's further down the line.

I have fibre here so won't have issues streaming 4K. Will let you know what I think when I finally get around to setting it up,

Anyone else have this TV or have experience with it?

I don't know about the Samsung but I do have an LG "smart" TV and it's utterly useless. I actually heard a salesman in DID advising a guy not to buy a smart tv but buy a standard tv and an Android box.

Just installing update so should be sitting here for about 30-40mins!

Thanks to everyone for the comments advise and feedback was much appreciated. Will let you know my thoughts after a few days of use.

Anyone know if it's possible to get the ds video for synology loaded onto tv? No worries can use plex or koi but would be nice to have it.

Soundbar is ok. Only reason I kept mine is I don't have an alternative setup right now. Eventually it'll be relegated to another room and I'll set up something far more impressive in its place.

That would have been my advice to everyone until now. Android to is a gamechanger for me though.

I always have a look at TVs when I'm in shopping centres to see what's about. I had an old TV for about 8 years and an "android box" hooked up to it. The day I walked into the shop and saw the android is on a tv with KODI was the day I upgraded.

They won't update those TV's after a short while, the Apps will break and you'll be left buying an external box.

And that's not even getting into the security mess they are.

    POS.

And a big huge MINUS 1 to the shower at Richer Sounds that let me down badly at Xmas a few years back. Never again.
