Illness Benefit Amount

I've been out of work for a few weeks due to an illness and applied for illness benefit.

I've got my first payment and noticed it's for the lowest rate of €84.50. I was unemployed for the first few months of this year but my average weekly earnings since getting back to work would put me in the highest payment amount (€188 if earning over €300 a week). Even if I divide my gross pay from work since starting for the whole year it puts me above €150 average.

Any ideas if this is a mistake or why I was put on the lowest rate?

It's based on you average weekly wage over the year 2013, not this year

You can apply to your community welfare officer for a top up of supplementary welfare allowance which is means tested.
