Confidence Issue

Just looking for bit of advice. Am 34 yrs of age and just after having a beautiful baby boy after many years trying. (That another issue!) So all things good really. However, one thing still causing me a lot of worry. I am not that sociable and know very few people where I live. My partner is the opposite. Involved in everything and loads of friends where we live. I love my own space and happy on my own. Yet do feel a little envious when hear other people's stories about being out etc. I do feel very awkward when out socially and can be very nervous. ( though I do not think this comes across to the extent I feel- am talking hands shaking so much am afraid to lift glass) . Have used alcohol to get by when out but don't remember half the night so I know this not good. I have very little confidence in myself. Though think (from other people saying) am pretty and have done quite well in the education front ( degree masters) but have stayed at quite a low level at work. Again , always told from management am a great worker, dependable etc. But have no confidence in myself to go for promotion. After having my baby, So I am so lucky , most of my life working out. Any advice on how to get some confidence after all my life not having. Also, to find things easier socially and make friends? I do have few good friends but go back a long way. Thanks so much for reading this!

We can't really give specific individual advice in this forum - it's really for discussing Psychology as a science. You might might find our sticky on How to Find a Therapist/Counsellor useful.

And I'll move your query to Personal Issues, where you will get advice.

All I can say is I know how you feel. I too like being at home and by myself. And I still get sad if people don't ask me to come out or jealous of people going out. I think it's human nature to want to be invited to the party we were not going to go to/never going to enjoy anyway. We're weird like that. My husband likes going out and being around people a lot too and it can cause a little bit of trouble, when we don't always want the same things from our free time.

Have you read much about introversion? Maybe a book like this one would help boost confidence?
