Does this name change alter any existing contracts ppl may have had with UPC?
And hence make a cancellation fee invalid if one wishes to cancel their broadband early?
    Thanks

By that rationale to escape from any legal contract all you would need to is change your name.

Just trying to access my account. Looks like the old UPC username and password haven't transferred.

Look at your contract, it's likely you'll find it mentions your obligation remains even if the ownership of the company changes.

    Yes.

Username did, my password didn't - had to reset, and the requirements are now less silly.

No it wouldnt. By that rationale to escape a contract they would have to change their name not me. And indeed that does happen for instance upc could go bankrupt today and open their doors tomorrow as cpu and not owe a cent to their old customers. Happened to a mate of mine.

A liquidation and formation of a new company does not equate to a company changing their name

    The contract is still valid.

Yes and you could go bankrupt tomorrow and Virgin would have a tough time getting their outstanding payments from you.

That's an entirely different scenario though. The company still exists, the name is irrelevant.

No, that would need it to be a new company or at very least, to go through examinership in court.

Note that shareholders are legally different to the company they own. Samson and Samson and all that.

A person can sell their interest in a contract. The other party is now bound to the assignee.

Just to be clear, the company that you have your contract with has not changed at all. They have only changed the trading name and the colour of their website,.

UPC is owned by Liberty Global. They also own Virgin Media and have decided to change the trading name in Ireland to Virgin Media. There has been no change to the ownership or management of Liberty Global in Ireland.
