Distance between clay adaptor and stove

    Good evening,
We are going to install our stove in our clay lined chimney. It's quite a straightforward configuration: insert stove, 7" single wall straight pipe, 7" to 8" clay adaptor, into the chimney.
Our only problem is that the manufacturer told our supplier today that they recommend a minimum of 600mm between the clay adaptor and the stove. There is only 400mm between our chimney and our stove.
I haven't seen any mention of that distance on the manufacturer website or on the building regulations.
Would you think it's a recommendation we can ignore? The kind that's there to cover their "rear end"?
    Thanks
