Any ideas as to whether there is a reliable gps tracker out there, to be used in event of one of my bikes being stolen. Looking for something that could be hidden away inside the frame in either the seat post or head tube/head set.

Advance apologies for hi-jacking your thread....

I'd like to see all the Dublin Bikes fitted with GPS trackers and then the data used to aid the design and implementation of contra-flow lanes in the city.

Back to your question - sorry I don't know!

You are looking for basically a phone - something with a gps and something that can communicate to the outside world wirelessly.

How long do you think battery life will keep tracking something for?

True but the seat post option doesn't seem to be available yet. I'm amazed there isn't several options available on the marked due to the problem of bike theft

The problem isn't bike theft, the problem is fitting a GPS, GSM phone and big battery into a small rugged, waterproof package, and affordably. Maintaining the battery and data SIM cost is a chore - but I too am surprised it isn't more common considering the cost of high end bikes...

    There is https://thetrackr.com/

But it relies on having a critical mass of folks with their app running on their phones to pick up the signal when stolen.
