Could this get reconditioned or should I go to the breakers and get a secondhand one it's a particular car six speed I heard they are hard to find..
I have been trying some breakers with little or no luck
have no idea where to look 😳
    tried online any ideas
    Thanks

Could you not get a gear box out of a 6 speed golf GTI are they not the same?

Possibly audi/skoda might be the same also

Maybe try the Naas Gearbox Center.

A friend used them for a reconditioned 'box in his Discovery.

As a result of his experience I took a VW Touaerag to them after main dealer diagnosed a faulty transfer box. They checked it out found nothing wrong (later discovered it was a noisy wheel bearing) and didn't charge me for the diagnosis (labor and a ramp tied up)

Are you intending to DIY this?

If not just get a pro source it for you. They will (prob) not fit something from unknown source that could break 50 miles down the road.

Thinking about it. If both gears are on the same shaft and you have no bad noises coming from the 'box. Could it be a selector issue? May be an easy fix

Have very little knowledge of cars to be honest only sending out calls fishing quotes is awkward is a particular car hard to find the right parts 😄

Have you tried traynors in NI? Or maybe www.partfinder.ie As above, probably best to go with a specialist. Getting it reconditioned probably better than buying a pig in a poke!

4 to gears are working while driving yes as I drive I can go from 6th to 5th without clutching there is no grinding sound when I do change.
Maybe it's a big job maybe a small job 😌

Given that I would think either a gear selector problem. They appear to be prone to breaking the rivet that holds the selector in place (usually first and second though). Or the cables from the gear leaver to the linkage on the gearbox may need adjusting. If it were me I'd be thinking the guys in Naas get a proper diagnosis.

If the gear box does have to come out have the clutch look at as well. No point in spending money twice on labor if it is near its end of life.
