Help with rc airplane purchase

Hi all you in the know
I'm looking to get my partner a remote control airplane for Christmas and have absolutely no idea where to start. He say a guy out with one in our local park and decided he would like one. Please help me in where I should start looking and what exactly I am looking for.
I am clueless as you may have guessed :rolleyes:

Planes are not as easy as that you need to join a club learn to fly get advice from the club on types of trainers radio gear, is it battery or nitro fuel powered plane. If you go out and just buy a trainer and let it rip it wont last 30 seconds before its in bits on the ground. You need a huge area to fly them at the beginning. Why would he need to join a club? If it's just for some casual fun,then it's very easy to pick up a cheap little starter plane and learn the basics,that's what i did.

Ya don't need to join one but it helps. So a beginner with a plane set up wrong can fly it without crashing?

Just a thought. Get a drone and start from there. Much easier to fly. :-)

There is a place out beside the Karting centre in Santry that sells ready to fly electric model planes. They also exhibit at Toys for Big Boys exhibition. You could get him something from there, but make sure it's a trainer, as a scale model would be less forgiving of mistakes. As to how he could learn to fly it if not in a club, perhaps some hints might be picked up online.
