We are looking at €2,000 for a new boiler/burner. The boiler is in a boiler house heating 16 rads. There is a guy offering reconditioned units on done deal with a 3 month guarantee for approx €550. Is this worth looking at to tide us over a few years or is it a waste of money. Thanks for your time.

The price of the second hand one is price not fitted. The price of new one is for a way better boiler and would go a long way towards fitting. So not comparing like with like.

With secondhand, it's very difficult to know the condition of the inside of the boiler. 3 month guarantee is not worth much. If it rusted through in 4 months you would have no come back and be very unhappy.

If going down that road, make sure you have an installer that would fit it.

Please follow site and charter rules. "Resistance is futile"

+ you get 5y warranty on the boiler shell and 2y on the burner with your new boiler

Good look getting a decent installer to fit a second hand boiler too!

just make sure your new boiler is commissioned and has its boiler passport returned to the manufactures for warranty to kick in
