Unable to check-in online for Aer Lingus flight?!

After a dozen or so flights this year, this is my first time encountering this problem:confused:
Basically, I am flying with Aer Lingus from Cork to Amsterdam next week. I was able to check in online and print my boarding pass for the outbound leg with no problems. However, I am unable to check-in for the return flight from Amsterdam with just getting a "online check-in is unavailable, please check in at the airport" message instead.
I thought online check-in was available for all short haul European routes?
Can someone confirm is Schiphol airport different where you just have to check in at the airport?
I'm one of those people who like to have all my boarding passes ready before I travel:(
I also paid for my priority seat already so I hope this doesn't mean I'll be randomly assigned another seat at the airport.

Are you flying out and back on the same day by any chance? something similar happened to me when doing a day trip for work to London earlier in the year.
Can't remember exact justification but was due to flights being on same day.

Probably a different situation, my son came from Ireland to Malaga for visit. Travelling back to Dublin airport tomorrow, couldn't check in cos less than 24 hours til flight. I think he is lucky cos he is flying with aer lingus and unlike Ryanair I think they don't charge extra for checking in at airport.

I always thought aer lingus only open check in 3 days before the flight are your trips are normally shorter and so this is why you've been able to check in on the return. I've never checked in for a return flight for this reason.

Ok just seen above your return flight is on Friday you may be able to check in from later tonight I think it's 36hrs before the flight

Hi, no they offer online check-in from 30 days in advance of departure.

Flights from Amsterdam cannot check-in online via the Aer Lingus website.

That's been a longstanding issue - there is an IT difficulty.

There was a fix (and I'm not sure if it still works), which was to enter your Aer Lingus booking reference and flight number on the KLM website and you should be able to check in ok.

Yep, KLM are the Codeshare partner for Aer Lingus and they handle the gate so their online check-in doesn't work in Schiphol.

Last time I checked in online using KLMs web check in service with the Ticket Number (Looks like 0532XXXXXXXXX) and the flight number.

Not really an issue anyways as you can check in using the machines located all over the airport quite quickly :)

Not sure if it's still possible but you could give it a try.

    Thanks for the responses.
Seems odd Aer Lingus have never attempted to rectify this issue after all these years, considering Schiphol is probably one of their busier routes too.
I guess I'll just check in at one of the machines at the airport. Silly question I guess, but do you just have to enter your booking reference and flight number to check in at the machine? And does it then print out your boarding pass?

I have a feeling I'll be assigned a random seat but I'll be contacting Aer Lingus anyway for my seat refund if that turns out to be the case:)

The kiosks in Schiphol or just like the Aer Lingus ones at Dublin airport (but KLM colours). You put in your flight ref and it has all the details and prints your boarding card. You also have to tag and drop your own bag if you have check in luggage!

Why don't you just check in on the KLM website using the link that I gave you?

Thanks but you can only check in 30 hours before your flight at KLM website and at that stage I will already be in Amsterdam and probably won't have access to a printer.
Yes I know you can have a boarding pass on a phone now but I'm old school and like to have a physical copy:o
