I have a 06 Citroen C4 van, I can't be arsed with the ridiculously priced CVT test so I want to change the taxation class to private. Question is does this mean I can NCT test it turn or must it still be tested as a commercial.

Can I also insure it as a car then and not commercial?

You need to pay vrt too though.

Vrt would have been paid at 13% or whatever before though, so unsure how that would pan out.

Isn't the price around €100? It's a legitimate business cost so why would you go to all that hassle for something you can claim against your business?

There's no problem changing motor tax, as it's a commercial vehicle it will still need a CRVT.

    Whats the engine size?

The more expensive private tax could well be much more than the cost of commercial tax + the CVRT test fee.

    I'm guessing 1.6

yeah once it's a van, then it's a CVRTest required. NCT only does cars.

The motor tax at €333 should compensate for the extra CVRT cost over the NCT cost? On cc a 1.1/1.2l car is €330 a 1.6 is €514.

For the reason given in the OP it makes no sense to convert to private from commercial to avail of lower NCT fee. To actually change the van to a car would cost a few €€s too, seats, seatbelt install, eng report etc.
