Thinking of buying an ex taxi, 1.8 petrol avensis (05). mileage shows 113,000.
Cartell report says no previous higher mileage found. Car is good to drive, feels tight and responsive etc, interior is very clean, some wear on gearknob but steering wheel, pedals etc ok. Should I trust the Cartell report.

How long has it been a taxi for?

Even if it was a 'Private' 10 year old 1.8 Avensis that mileage is on the lowish side.

....and I'd presume that the only reason that Cartell doesn't have any other mileage readings is simply because nobody else has paid for a Cartell report previously.

NCT from last year and possibly the year before will show the current mileage that was on it when test conducted, these will be all printed on the most recent NCT certificate. Being a taxi you would think there would be history from the jobs done if they wanted to keep a record to claim expenses against income etc.

I'd find it hard to believe tbh.

    Thanks All...
Kinda makes the Cartell report a waste of €25. the main reason for it was to verify the mileage. Does Cartell have access to mileage on all previos NCT certs?

No. Usually all they have is a database consisting of figures given by people paying for a Cartell Report.

so if do a cartell report on a car that nobody has ever done a cartell report on before, it will have zero mileage information?

seems hard to believe; would be a bit of a ridiculous business idea.

Thanks for the info. I presume all the other car check services are the same?

Is there any way to check via NCTS.ie?

Does the car not have any service history?

If they don't have any previous info their system will either go with an 'average mileage per year' (and tell you the mileage "may" be inaccurate) or else will simply show no discrepancies.
They do claim to have access to some of the Main Dealer's info.....but unless a car is serviced at a Dealership, then that is a fairly limited source.

They do offer more than just mileage history in fairness.

The current NCT disc will have the mileage at last NCT on it, if you can get access to the NCT cert it possibly will show the previous one from last year too depending when that was done, they started printing the mileage on them since July 2014.

I'd chance it at a grand regardless of mileage but alowing for it been an ex Taxi. Any dearer I'd lean towards a private one.

No History. Seems to drive ok and is cheap, I do small mileage, sub 10k per annum so tempted, I may get a year out of it, any more would be a bonus.
BTW, have service history for my current car, Rav4 d4d, but the bloody thing is still a money pit

If it was a taxi the whole time, did it have one owner. Have you look at the car itself yet? Check out it's service history yet. Will you be using this for social domestic use OP?

i thought when he said it was a taxi from 09-2015, he meant september 2015, which is plausible

An 05 car, Taxi for 6 years and you think that mileage could be right?
Even if he was laziest taxi driver ever, that is false mileage.

not unless they're wheelchair accessible and Ben at that I'm not sure that applies anymore?

Thanks for the advice and the laughs All, think I'll pass on the car and write off the €25 euros to Cartell as one of life's lessons.

Pm me the reg and I'll check it..... the company I work for has mileage readings among other info from extensive and varied sources.
